Welcome to the Web site for the
City of Zion, Illinois. Nestled along Lake Michigan about half
way between Chicago and Milwaukee, Zion is easily accessible
by highway, air and rail. Because Zion offers both a small-town
feel and many modern amenities, it is a wonderful place to live,
visit and work.
The city boasts more park space per capita than any city in
the region, including two public golf courses: the nine-hole
Shiloh Golf Course and the championship-caliber Shepherd's Crook.
On the city's southwest boundary, is the unique Thunderhawk
Golf Course, which is considered one of the most challenging
courses in the Midwest.
Being located on Lake Michigan offers many benefits not found
in most other communities, such as miles of beaches, biking
and hiking trails and North Point Marina in neighboring Winthrop
Harbor. Illinois Beach State Park, the most visited of Illinois'
state parks, and the Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center,
are in Zion.
In addition, Zion is home to the corporate headquarters for
Cancer Treatment Centers of America and Midwest Regional Medical
Center, which provides medical and surgical services through
more than 150 physicians in more than 30 specialties.
Zion has a rich 100-year history. Founded as a utopian society
by world-renowned evangelist and orator, Dr. John Alexander
Dowie, Zion was one of the first planned cities in the United
States and was platted to imitate the layout of the British
Union Jack flag.
Today Zion is aggressively heralding its own future with eagerness
and optimism. The city's economy is growing as millions of dollars
in non-tax economic development funds are used to bring new
business into the city as well as help existing businesses remodel.
More than 100 new homes are being built here each year. However
Zion is still a place where residents recognize each other and
enjoy a quality of life not available in other cities.
This site contains plentiful information about our city. I welcome
you to view these pages and learn why Zion is a great place
to be. If you have any questions, please contact us so we can
provide the information you need. Thank you so much for your
interest in Zion.
