The City of Zion has a tradition of hosting
and organizing festivals and events that draw visitors from
all across the region. Some of those events include:
Gypsy Days -- June 20 – 21, 2003
This is a huge sidewalk sale by downtown businesses
to improve foot traffic and take advantage of the 20,000 plus
people in town for Nostalgia Days. For information on being
part of this event contact Glinda Miracle at the Zion Chamber
of Commerce (847) 872-5405.
Nostalgia Days -- June 19 – 21, 2003
The Midwest's largest classic car show brings
more than 20,000 visitors to Zion to see the American automobile
history in action. Sheridan Road is closed for a private cruise
of just the classic cars, (no other such opportunity is available
anywhere) and brings hundreds of car owners out to ‘road-test'
their prized possessions. In addition, the weekend includes
a free concert in the park, family carnival, crafts, food
vendors and stage performances. For information on participating
as a vendor or car show registration contact Blake Rogers
at (847) 746-5230.
Fourth of July – July 4, 2003
One of the largest fireworks exhibits in the Lake
County area, the event is cosponsored by the City of Zion
and the Zion Park District. Contact Rich Walker for more information

Jubilee Days – Labor Day Weekend
The largest parade in the State of Illinois, the
event attracts thousands of viewers to Zion. Crafters set
up booths along the central park and lagoon. Don't forget
to have your box picnic dinner on the lawn of the Dowie Historical
Museum. Don't miss the Little Miss, Junior Miss and
Miss Zion competitions and the truly magnificent fireworks
show provided by the Zion Park District and the City of Zion.
For information on this event contact Rich Walker (847) 746-5500.
Festival of Lights -- Month of December
The Festival of Lights includes a beautiful parade
of lighted floats, arrival of Santa Claus and the opening
of Kringle's Kingdom, a city-sponsored transformation
of Shiloh Water Park into a fantasy toy factory and winter
wonderland stroll. More than 350 trees are decorated by volunteers
and surround nearly fifty festive holiday-themed shadow boxes.
In addition, Shiloh Park offers a drive through of lighted
special exhibits that twinkle and sparkle encouraging even
Scrooge to embrace the holiday spirit. Contact Diane Burkemper
for more info on this event (847) 746-4012.
The Festival of Lights Commission has four goals:
• Improve upon the existing Festival components
• Expand by adding new quality attractions and events
every year
• Attain financial self-sufficiency
• Earn and maintain "Number One" status in
holiday lighting displays
in northeastern Illinois.
